All patients must be formally referred by a registered medical practitioner.
They may be funded by the NHS, a private insurer or themselves.
Well over 90% of our patients are funded by their Primary Care Trust, Local Health Board or Health Executive. General practitioners usually apply for funding for their patients as ‘out of area’ referrals. Sometimes application is made by the patient’s Consultant or Local Lymphoedema Clinic.
Patients come to us from all over the UK and Republic of Ireland and sometimes from further afield.
In severe, neglected or intractable cases more than one period of intensive therapy is sometimes needed. In that case, funding for each clinic attendance is dealt with as a separate episode of treatment.
